OGDEN — Two Utah cities have been ranked in the top 10 best places for raising a family in the U.S. by Forbes.

Ogden was named the third best city for raising a family in 2014, with Provo coming in at 10th place. The list, released Wednesday, ranked the 100 largest metro areas in the U.S. by taking into account factors like income, cost of living, housing affordability, commute time, crime rate and school quality.

The honor of being named the best city for raising a family went to Raleigh, N.C., for its quality schools, low cost of living and plentiful oak trees, according to Forbes. Grand Rapids, Mich., came in second place.

Researchers said Ogden had the largest spread between median household income and cost of living out of the 100 cities surveyed, meaning its residents can get the most out of their higher earnings. It also has one of the lowest crime rates in the country, according to Forbes.

Provo's qualities also caught the attention of researchers.

"Housing is expensive, but relatively high incomes, good schools and low crime make Provo a family Mecca," Forbes wrote.

Recently, Provo was named as having one of the top 10 best downtowns and was deemed the second best-performing city in the U.S. for 2013.
